Rose Nelson’s 90th Birthday Easter Bunny Hop

Rose Nelson holds a deep affection for Easter, considering it a cherished time for familial connection, religious observance, and the joy of wearing festive attire. This year, Easter coincides with Rose’s 90th birthday, prompting her to celebrate in a unique fashion.

Instead of traditional attire, she has opted for an Easter Bunny costume, embarking on a mission to spread happiness and share Krispy Kreme doughnuts with residents of retirement homes across the valley. “I wanted to dedicate my birthday to visiting a nursing home.

If I have the energy, I hope to bring smiles to people’s faces,” remarked Rose earlier this week. Born in Eureka and a lifelong resident of Montana, Rose’s journey has taken her through various towns in the valley. Her caregiving journey commenced at the age of 13 when she assisted a patient with Alzheimer’s disease, igniting within her a lifelong passion for aiding others, particularly the elderly.

Instead of attending high school, she pursued studies at a business college for three months when she was 16 years old. Following this, she embarked on a diverse career path, including roles as a communications and shorthand assistant at a Presbyterian church in Kalispell, a doctor’s assistant, a dental assistant, and employment at State Farm.

However, her fondest memories stem from her time spent with the elderly, where she relished in learning about their fascinating life stories. “There’s history there that you won’t find in history books,” she remarked. Retirement came at the age of 77, allowing her to indulge in travel and quality time with family. When her daughter, Morna, inquired about her plans for her 90th birthday, which coincidentally fell on Easter, the answer was clear: don a bunny costume and bring joy to others.

“I can’t think of a better representation of her 90 years than in a costume with doughnuts, spreading happiness,” Morna remarked. Easter Sunday serves as a dual celebration—a birthday occasion where Rose Nelson chooses to uplift others. If she can bring smiles to people, particularly on a holiday, then it’s all worthwhile—and perhaps a few doughnuts can aid in that endeavor too, she added with a grin.
