On Wednesday, the St. Petersburg Police Department confirmed the arrest of Rod Wave, the rapper and singer born Rodarius Marcell Green, for possession of ammunition or a weapon. Authorities state that Rod was detained on suspicions related to his alleged involvement in a gang-related shooting in Florida, which resulted in injuries to four individuals on the night of March 31.
According to police reports, gunfire erupted during a verbal altercation among a group of men. The victims, comprising three men in their 20s and a 17-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following his arrest, Rod was taken to Manatee County Jail, where he was identified as a convicted felon, a claim contested by his legal representatives via social media. They also refute allegations of Rod’s ownership of ammunition.
“Rod was arrested and detained without any evidence of wrongdoing,” attorneys Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin stated on Instagram. “The police claimed he was a felon possessing ammunition.”
However, not only was he not in possession of ammunition, a simple check of public records would have easily shown the police that he was not a convicted felon. The prosecutor and the judge promptly agreed that the evidence did not support the charge and released him the same day.”
News channels have reached out to the St. Petersburg Police Department for additional clarification.
In 2022, Rod was arrested for unrelated charges of domestic battery by strangulation after allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend. “At that time, Cohen informed Rolling Stone that the case stemmed from a misunderstanding between a girlfriend and boyfriend.”
“That misunderstanding resulted in Mr. Green’s arrest.” During the same year, he released his second Billboard 200-topping album, “Beautiful Mind,” followed by “Nostalgia” in 2023. The latter featured a collaboration with 21 Savage on the track “Turks & Caicos” and spent two weeks at No. 1.
