Gypsy Rose Blanchard took to social media this week to confirm that she and her husband are parting ways, just three months after reclaiming her freedom. In her post, Blanchard acknowledged the curiosity surrounding her life and revealed the unfortunate news of her separation.
She mentioned relocating to her parents’ home down the bayou, where she has reconnected with her father, Rod Blanchard, and stepmother, Kristy. Expressing gratitude for the support of her family and friends, she emphasized her current need for introspection and self-discovery. Blanchard concluded by stating her intention to listen to her heart and take the necessary time to rediscover her identity.
Blanchard, aged 32, tied the knot with Ryan Scott Anderson, a Louisiana-based teacher, in a prison ceremony held in 2022. This marriage seemed to mark a significant shift in Blanchard’s turbulent life, previously dominated by the oppressive control of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
Dee Dee was tragically murdered by her daughter’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, in 2015. Following the discovery of Dee Dee’s stabbed body in their Missouri residence, the true nature of the toxic relationship between mother and daughter gradually came to light.
For years, Dee Dee Blanchard perpetuated a web of lies, fabricating multiple diseases and disorders that she falsely claimed her daughter, Gypsy Rose, suffered from, including leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy. Through unnecessary medical procedures and medications, Dee Dee maintained a tight grip over Gypsy Rose, while they benefited from generous charity and donations from various organizations.
As the legal proceedings unfolded and the shocking truth emerged to the public, Gypsy Rose entered into a plea bargain, acknowledging her role in the events. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison after it was argued that she was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a condition in which a guardian exaggerates or induces illness in another to gain sympathy.
Gypsy Rose also persuaded her then-boyfriend, Godejohn, to carry out the murder of her mother.
In 2019, Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
