Philadelphia 76ers’ standout, Joel Embiid, has secured his spot on Team USA for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The finalized roster, announced by USA Basketball on Wednesday, includes Embiid alongside NBA luminaries like LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Joining them on the team are Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat, Devin Booker of the Suns, Anthony Davis of the Lakers, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics, Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Jayson Tatum, also of the Boston Celtics.
Grant Hill, the director of USA Basketball’s men’s national team, expressed gratitude towards the 12 athletes for their dedication to representing the nation. He expressed gratitude for the widespread enthusiasm among basketball players for joining the roster, emphasizing the exceptional talent pool within the United States.
The upcoming 2024 Summer Games mark Joel Embiid’s debut, having committed to Team USA following his naturalization as an American citizen in September 2022. Notably, Embiid holds dual citizenship with both the U.S. and France. Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, will lead Team USA, with assistance from Mark Few of Gonzaga University, Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat.
The team aims to secure its 17th gold medal this summer, building on their victory over France in the 2020 Summer Games. Scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024, the Paris Olympic Games will host this highly anticipated event.
