Former Tennessee police officer Maegan Hall has settled her lawsuit with the city of La Vergne for $500,000. This settlement comes after Hall was terminated following an internal investigation that uncovered her involvement in sexual activities with six male officers, including engaging in games of ‘strip-Uno’ and sharing foot fetish photos.
Hall, who was 28 years old at the time, was fired in January 2023 after it was revealed that she had engaged in sexual relationships with multiple officers within the suburban Nashville department. Some of these officers were subsequently terminated, while others faced suspension.
In response, Hall filed a federal lawsuit alleging that she had been groomed and subjected to abuse by senior officials, including Police Chief Burrel ‘Chip’ Davis and Sgt. Lewis Powell, a veteran of 15 years in law enforcement.
The settlement of half a million dollars covers court expenses, legal fees, and other costs, all of which are to be paid by the city’s insurance.
In a special meeting, the La Vergne board voted 3-1 in favor of settling the lawsuit. According to a statement from the board, the agreement was reached through negotiations between the city’s legal team and Hall’s attorneys.
The statement emphasized that the city denies any admission of liability and assured that no taxpayer funds would be utilized for the settlement.
La Vergne initiated an internal investigation after receiving information from a whistleblower late last year. The whistleblower reported that Officer Maegan Hall was involved in intimate relationships with multiple male colleagues, even on police property.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Hall had engaged in sexual activities with several fellow officers, including Officer Lewis Powell, while on duty.
Hall disclosed during the investigation that she participated in activities such as ‘strip Uno,’ exchanging foot fetish photos, and engaging in wife-swapping sessions with fellow officers.
In one of her interviews regarding the affairs, Hall admitted, “I made poor choices, I acted recklessly, and I regret it deeply.”
In discussions concerning her relationship with Powell, Hall revealed that they engaged in sexual activities on police premises, stating, “I performed oral sex on him in the substation. My husband and I were on the brink of divorce, and I just couldn’t handle it anymore, and things got out of control.”
Initially, Powell denied the affair but later admitted to it, claiming in a recent lawsuit that then-police chief Davis had instructed him to lie initially.
Following an investigation, Hall, Powell, Patrol Officer Juan Lugo, Detective Seneca Shields, Sgt. Ty McGowan, and even Police Chief Davis were terminated from their positions. McGowan, who initially reported the misconduct to La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole’s office, was the source of the original whistleblower complaint.
Additionally, Patrol Officer Patrick Magliocco, K-9 officer Larry Holladay, and Patrol Officer Gavin Schoeberl, who exchanged explicit photos with Hall, were suspended.
In the aftermath, Hall alleged that her superiors had “sexually groomed” her and acknowledged attempting suicide.
She filed her own lawsuit earlier this year, asserting that “Sgt. Powell positioned himself as a trusted confidant and adviser regarding my career and marriage.”
