Nelly Korda Secures Fifth Consecutive LPGA Tour Triumph at Chevron Championship

Nelly Korda, the talented American golfer, secured an extraordinary fifth consecutive victory on Sunday, capturing her second major title at the Chevron Championship and simultaneously equaling the LPGA Tour’s record for consecutive wins. In a thrilling finale at Carlton Woods in Texas, the world No.1 finished two shots ahead of Sweden’s Maja Stark, carding a final round three-under 69 to top the leaderboard at 13-under overall.

With this triumph, Korda’s LPGA Tour victories have soared from eight to 13 in just a few months. The 25-year-old Floridian now joins elite company, alongside compatriot Nancy Lopez (1978) and Sweden’s Annika Sörenstam (2005), as one of the few LPGA players to achieve such a remarkable winning streak.

As she prepares to tee off at the JM Eagle LA Championship in Los Angeles this week, the possibility of clinching an unprecedented sixth consecutive victory looms tantalizingly close for her. However, for now, it’s a moment to savor and exhale. Reflecting on her extraordinary achievement, Nelly Korda, still feeling the dampness from her celebratory leap into the lake beside the 18th hole, shared her thoughts with reporters.

“It’s been an absolutely whirlwind couple of weeks, filled with some incredibly solid golf,” Korda remarked. ” As I progressed through the back nine, I could feel the nerves creeping in. This is everything I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl – lifting that major trophy.”

“Now that the pressure is off, I can finally catch my breath and soak in this moment,” she continued. “I was certainly feeling the nerves, almost to the point of feeling sick to my stomach. But now, it’s a moment to revel in the triumph and savor every moment.”

It was a well-deserved second major triumph for Korda, adding to her maiden victory at the Women’s PGA Championship in 2021. Following storm delays on Saturday, play resumed on Sunday for the final seven holes of Korda’s third round. Despite starting the final round one shot behind South Korean leader Ryu Hae-ran, Korda wasted no time asserting herself.

She notched four birdies within the first 10 holes to surge ahead. Although she encountered her first bogey since the 7th hole of Friday’s second round, ending an impressive 39-hole flawless streak, 24-year-old Stark was mounting a challenge of her own. Stark consistently maintained par or better over the last 26 holes, finishing with consecutive birdies to narrow Korda’s lead to just one shot heading into the final tee.

Despite any potential nerves, Korda displayed remarkable composure, nearly converting an eagle from inside 30 feet before sinking the birdie putt to secure victory and a $1.2 million prize.
